Product Description
Tape echoes are widely recognized as the original delay technology, delivering rich and slightly distorted repeats. The distinctive sound comes from two key factors: the magnetic tape itself and its inherent imperfections, along with the internal preamp. Renowned musicians like Eric Johnson have creatively utilized their tape echoes by employing the preamp independently, without the echo effect, to serve as a gritty boost that drives their amps into saturation while adding a one-of-a-kind character.
The Tape Preamp takes inspiration from the JFET preamp circuit of a well-known 70’s tape echo, celebrated for its exceptional delay and warm preamp characteristics. However, we didn't just replicate it; we reengineered the circuit in a unique way to provide an entirely new spectrum of tones while preserving the original essence of the effect—all without the necessity of an actual tape echo.
