The EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 is a versatile effects pedal that combines distortion, boost, and an adjustable octave-up effect. The distortion section draws from the classic 'White Face' design and includes three selectable clipping modes: a rich drive with no diodes, a smooth crunch with asymmetrical clipping, and the traditional 'white face' sound. Musically, the pedal produces a range of tones from nuanced overdrive to aggressive fuzz. The analogue Octave-Up section can be blended with the distortion and works best with single notes, particularly above the 12th fret. When set to maximum, it generates a gritty fuzz reminiscent of the Super Fuzz. The MOSFET booster drives tube amps into saturation without adding distortion, ensuring a clean output while pushing the amp's front end. The signal path can be configured as Octave > Distortion > Boost, with each section operable independently.
