It delivers pristine clean tones alongside a dynamic, overdriven growl, encapsulating the best of both worlds. Adjusting the Level The -3db Pad switch works alongside the input level control to accommodate different instruments. Lower output basses typically won't need the Pad, whereas higher output models may overload the pedal, necessitating its use. Overloading the input can lead to undesirable distortion, so some experimentation will help you find the right settings for your instruments. Authentic Valve Overdrive The valve overdrive circuit integrated into the OriginAL’s preamp mimics the overdrive characteristics of a valve amplifier, functioning in a similar manner. The DRIVE GAIN adjusts the signal amplification from your instrument; at higher settings, the valve will clip and compress the sound, emphasizing higher harmonics and frequencies while compressing the lows. As with a valve amp, this results in a significant volume boost depending on the gain control setting. To help balance the overdriven signal with the clean tone, a Drive Level control is included. This allows for seamless transitions from crystal-clear sounds to overdriven tones at a comparable level. The Input Level control also plays a role, setting the baseline for the overdrive circuit, so it’s recommended to experiment with this alongside Drive Gain and Drive Level to achieve your desired sound. The OVERDRIVE feature is foot-switchable, with the pedal illuminating blue when activated. When using the footswitch, it's best to avoid abrupt volume increases, as sudden changes can create switching noise downstream.
