We’ve also enhanced the artwork and fine-tuned the circuit to ensure compatibility with a broader range of guitars and amplifiers. Whether you refer to it as the “British” sound, the “UK” style, or the “Plexi” variant, these distinctive amps from the late 60s and early 70s quickly became a sought-after legend. When envisioning that “plexi” tone, it’s easy to overestimate the amount of distortion involved. A key aspect of this sound is using less gain than you might expect. The Major is designed to take you from the 60s to the late 70s with a “brown sound” style gain. Set the Major OD GAIN knob to the center position, and you’ll instantly notice the magic – this sought-after tone is distorted yet facilitates smooth legato lead lines. The early plexi tones are prominent and expansive in a band setting, while the late 70s tones offer more gain and compression, reminiscent of a certain guitarist in LA who connected his plexi amp to a variable power transformer to reduce the voltage, resulting in a unique distortion.
