The Kill Chain pedal is crafted with a specific purpose in mind. My first objective was to create a fuzz that exudes raw power and an edgy character. Next, I aimed for a straightforward feature set that is intuitive and easy to adjust—nothing overly complicated. Just plug it in and unleash your sound. Lastly, I wanted a pedal that offers exceptional value, both in terms of cost and versatility.
I opted to skip the conventional EQ options. There’s no tone knob, no active tone stacks, and no adjustable high-pass filters. Instead, I integrated a fixed filter towards the end of the circuit, which I believe perfectly complements my playing style while maintaining a natural response across various pickups, amplifiers, and genres. The Depth toggle allows you to control the amount of bass entering the circuit, providing a broad range of low-end response and facilitating easy adjustments for different guitars and pickups. Additionally, the Level control modifies treble frequencies as you change the volume. I discovered that at lower fuzz settings, I preferred more treble, but as the volume increased, it could become overwhelming. Increasing the level control reduces treble, ensuring a balanced sound. The final EQ feature is the Bleed toggle, which serves multiple purposes: it lowers the cutoff frequency for less pronounced treble during the Level sweep, diminishes overall compression for a more open and aggressive tone, and delivers a substantial volume boost.
