1981 InventionsProduct Description
Crafted with a distinct steel chassis and high-quality components, this pedal embodies my commitment to excellence. I understand that selecting the finest parts and designs in the guitar gear realm can be subjective, so I chose my personal favorites. This includes Switchcraft 11 open frame jacks and a whisper-quiet soft touch switching mechanism powered by an internal relay.
This project has been a labor of love for nearly three years, developed in collaboration with Jon Ashley from Bondi Effects. I believe this pedal boasts a unique design and delivers a sound that is unlike anything I’ve encountered, particularly in its lower gain and boost settings. It offers a subtlety reminiscent of vintage pedals rather than a mere adaptation of a classic design. The pedal features two circuits—one for distortion and another for preamp boost—operating at 18v through an internal voltage regulator. My intention was to carve out a distinct sound for myself, and I discovered it serves as an incredibly versatile tool for a variety of tones. I'm particularly proud of the lower gain side, which I consider the most distinctive part of the pedal, but the gain section also shines with a beautifully rich sound, especially with heavy and complex chords. The midrange punch is something I truly appreciate, along with a warmth and thickness that evokes the quality of a ribbon microphone. As this pedal evolved into something original and innovative, it inspired the launch of 1981 Inventions, making it my first official release.
