The Del Mar was designed to integrate a Tubescreamer-inspired clipping stage into the Klon Centaur. While I've always appreciated the clean tones of the Centaur, the articulate and nuanced clipping of the Tubescreamer has always been my favorite.
At the time, my engineering approach might have been a bit naive, and my efforts to blend features from the Klon, Tubescreamer, and Bluesbreaker led to a creation that doesn’t exactly mimic any of them.
Looking back, I realize that approaching the design in an unconventional manner yielded an unexpectedly distinctive outcome, which I now take great pride in.
